Calabria, the charming southern Italian region, with its rugged mountain landscapes offers ideal conditions for growing wine on around 25,000 hectares. The region is famous for Cirò, one of Italy's oldest wines, which is made from the Gaglioppo grape.

Other well-known wines include Melissa, Savuto and the Greco di Bianco fortified wine. Calabria is divided into three climate zones: hot and dry on the Ionian Sea, subtropical on the Tyrrhenian Sea and cool in the mountainous regions. The soils are mostly light and low in nutrients, which gives the wines a special minerality.
