Nicola Bergaglio winery is regarded as one of the most renowned producers of Gavi di Gavi DOCG in south-eastern Piedmont and is located in Rovereto, a hamlet of the municipality of Gavi in the province of Alessandria. The vineyards stretch across gentle hills near the Ligurian border at elevations of around 250 to 300 metres above sea level. The area’s unique microclimate is shaped both by the continental influence of Piedmont and by cool air currents coming from Liguria, which provide the vines with freshness and elegance. Limestone- and iron-rich soils combined with red clay give the wines structure and refined minerality.
For decades, the family-run estate has focused almost exclusively on one grape variety: Cortese. This indigenous white grape is considered the heart of the Gavi DOCG appellation and produces fresh, elegant white wines with remarkable precision and structure. Nicola Bergaglio has specialised in expressing the full potential of this variety, producing only white wines that reflect both origin and terroir. The winery is especially known for its Gavi di Gavi DOCG wines, including the classic Etichetta Bianca and the distinctive Minaia, sourced from a special single vineyard and appreciated for its added depth and complexity.
Nicola Bergaglio wines are characterised by elegant aromas of citrus fruits, white flowers, green apple, and delicate mineral notes. Ageing in stainless steel preserves the fresh and precise character that defines the Cortese grape variety.
