The Taurasi DOCG 2017 from Pietracupa is a wine of exceptional quality and elegance. Its deep ruby red color sparkles in the glass and indicates its concentration and maturity. This wine is made from the Aglianico grape variety, which is native to the Campania region of Italy. The special feature of this wine lies in its origin from the Taurasi area, which is known for its unique soil conditions and Mediterranean climate. The vineyards of Pietracupa are located in the hills of Irpinia, where the terroir-specific microclimate and calcareous soils
provide ideal conditions for growing high-quality grapes. Taurasi DOCG is characterized by its ability to mature and develop over time. It is often referred to as the “Barolo of the South” and is notable for its longevity and potential for aging. The Pietracupa 2017 Taurasi is a brambly, mid-weight red with sour cherry and wild plum, followed by scorched earth, spice and toasted oak. There is a lot of tarry smoke and camphor ash in this hot-vintage expression of Aglianico, but the finish is balanced with some nice freshness too. The wine aged in stainless steel, cement and large oak casks. Only 2,600 bottles were made.
