The Barbaresco DOCG Bric Turot 2021 is a remarkable wine that captures the essence of the Langhe region in Piedmont. Its deep ruby red color in the glass promises an extraordinary experience even before the first sip. On the nose, it presents complex aromas of red fruits, dried flowers, spices and a touch of licorice. On the palate, there is a harmonious interplay of freshness, fullness and velvety tannins, accompanied by notes of cherries, strawberries, tobacco and a touch of truffle.

The Nebbiolo grape variety used for this wine gives it its characteristic structure, elegance and finesse. The special feature of this wine lies in its origin from the Marchesi di Gresy winery, a renowned producer of high-quality Barbarescos. The Marchesi di Gresy vineyards cover several hectares in the best locations in the Langhe and are known for their respectful treatment of nature and their traditional winemaking.

This wine sources its fruit exclusively from a five-hectare site with local Tortoniano soils that are rich in magnesium and manganese with a bluish hue. The Prunotto 2021 Barbaresco Bric Turot (with 26,000 bottles made) shows an expressive savory side that to my tastes translates as more roots than flowers. Dark fruit is followed by tilled earth, petrichor and toasted almond husk. This is a keeper, but for near and medium-term drinking, I would go with the village Barbaresco.
