Gattinara DOCG Riserva
The Gattinara DOCG Riserva 2019 by Travaglini is a shiny garnet red with a slightly brightening edge. On the nose, it has an elegant scent of morels and violets, accompanied by fine leather and cocoa notes and a touch of cedarwood. On the palate, it is very fresh and juicy with dense tannins and a remarkable length.
This wine is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, which are known for their strong tannins and high acidity. Nebbiolo thrives excellently in the Gattinara region, which is characterized by mineral-rich soils and a continental climate. These conditions promote the development of complex aromas and a robust structure in wine.
The term “Riserva” means that this wine has aged longer than the standard version. Specifically, Gattinara Riserva ages for at least three years, including at least two years in wooden barrels. This longer aging gives the wine greater depth and complexity, which distinguishes it from simpler versions.
Gattinara DOCG Riserva is made from grapes from old vines, which results in a lower yield but higher quality. The wine is first aged in large Slavonian oak barrels and then in smaller barrels before aging in the bottle for a further few months in order to optimally develop its aromas.
