The Lagrein Riserva DOC Präpositus 2020 from Klosterkellerei Neustift is a red wine full of character that reflects the rich tradition and terroir of the Eisack Valley. On the nose, it develops an intense bouquet of dark berries, cherries, plums and fine spicy notes, accompanied by a touch of cocoa and tobacco. The color is deep dark, almost black, with purple reflections that indicate its concentration and depth. On the palate, the wine is powerful and full-bodied with ripe tannins and an impressive structure. Aromas of dark chocolate, black olives and a touch of vanilla give it a complex and elegant touch.
The main grape variety of Lagrein Riserva is, of course, Lagrein, an autochthonous grape variety in South Tyrol known for its strong and spicy wines. This grape grows particularly well in the cool climate conditions of the Eisack Valley, where it can ripen slowly and develops its characteristic variety of aromas. The special feature of this wine lies in its aging as a riserva, which means that it goes through a longer aging period in barrel and on the bottle to further develop its complexity and structure. As a result, the wine gains in elegance and finesse and can develop its full potential.
