The ca___L IGT 2019 from the Pranzegg winery is a single-variety Vernatsch from the historic Campill location in Bolzano. The name of the wine, “ca___L”, is an expression by winemaker Martin Gojer, as the historic location name “Campill” may not be used in full in the current classification if no Cabernet varieties are involved.
This wine shows a bright, slightly transparent garnet color in the glass. The bouquet features aromas of rose hips, cranberries, sourdough bread and a touch of tobacco. On the palate, Ca___l is powerful and juicy, with fine tannins and an invigorating pleasure to drink.
The vines for this wine grow on steep terraces right next to the Pranzegg farm. The soil consists of Eisack alluvial soil with clay, sand, porphyry, basalt
and granite.
The vines are cultivated using biodynamic methods, without the use of tractors.
After selective manual harvesting, spontaneous fermentation takes place in open wooden fermentation stands without temperature control. Fermentation takes around six weeks, followed by post-maceration and aging for twelve months in wooden barrels. The wine is then moved to concrete and large wooden barrels, where it rests for another ten months. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration in order to preserve its naturalness.
