Tonsur 2022 from Weingut Pranzegg is an exciting cuvée of 60% Müller-Thurgau, 20% Pinot Blanc, 10% Chardonnay and 10% Silvaner. This wine has a straw yellow color in the glass and gives off intense aromas of fresh fruit, seasoned with hints of spices and caramel, as well as mineral notes. On the palate, it is warm and soft, with an excellent acid structure and a persistent, balanced aftertaste.
The Pranzegg winery, managed by Martin Gojer, is located in the steep vineyards above Bolzano in South Tyrol. This region benefits from a unique microclimate characterized by the heat from the Bolzano basin and the cool breezes from the Eisack Valley. The vines grow on clayey and sandy soils of volcanic origin, which are rich in quartzite slate. The winery uses biodynamic farming methods and cultivates the vineyards manually, without the use of tractors.
The Tonsur grape varieties are carefully selected to create a complex and multi-layered wine. Müller-Thurgau brings fresh and floral notes, while Pinot Blanc provides structure. Chardonnay gives wine richness and elegance, and Silvaner adds a mineral component. The maturing process involves spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel, followed by a short maceration period. The wine ages on fine yeast in concrete containers until bottling in April 2022, without fining or filtration.
