The Vernatsch DOC “Mediaevum” 2023 from Gumphof is a light, transparent red wine made from the indigenous Schiava grape, grown on limestone moraine soils in the Isarco Valley at 400–480 m elevation. Following a short cold maceration, fermentation takes place in stainless steel, with partial ageing for about eight months in oak. The result is a fresh and vibrant Vernatsch with finesse and great drinkability.
In the glass it shines with a bright pale ruby red and violet reflections. The aroma is clean and appealing with notes of ripe cherry, red berries, violets and a touch of almond. On the palate, it is lively, juicy and light, with soft tannins, subtle herbal tones and a slightly mineral finish – a classic South Tyrolean Vernatsch with elegance and regional character.
