The Blauburgunder IGT “Vom Roten Kalk” 2021 from Abraham is a 100% Pinot Noir named after the iron-rich red limestone marl soil beneath the Mendel ridge. The vines are planted at about 450 m elevation in prime vineyards like Tschindlhof and Pagis, where the cool climate encourages elegance and clarity.
Fermentation occurs spontaneously in large wooden vats, followed by approximately 15 months of aging in 500 l oak barrels, both new and previously used.
In the glass, it reveals a fine ruby red hue. The bouquet is reminiscent of blood orange, forest floor, and dark berries—clean and well-defined. The palate offers natural tannins, saline freshness, good fruit intensity, and a lingering, elegant finish. A refined and mineral-driven Pinot Noir with a clear sense of place.
