The Blauburgunder IGT “Vom Muschelkalk” 2022 from Weingut Abraham is a 100% Pinot Noir. Its name refers to the shell-limestone soils – clay, porphyry and marl – at the foot of the Mendel ridge, around 600 m elevation, lending the wine tension, freshness and minerality.
Grapes are sourced from high-altitude vineyards with a cool climate. The wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation in wooden vats and is aged approximately 15 months in 500 l barrels, both new and used.
The wine shows a light, clear ruby red in the glass. The nose offers sour cherry, blood orange and dark berry fruit with subtle earthy nuances. On the palate, it is lean yet structured, with fine tannins, saline freshness and a lingering finish. An alpine Pinot Noir that reflects its terroir with precision and finesse.
