The Kalterersee Auslese DOC Vernacius Solemnis 2023 from Laimburg Estate Winery shows a bright ruby red with lighter edges. Its bouquet reveals enticing aromas of raspberry, strawberry and pomegranate, with a delicate spicy touch. On the palate, it has a medium body with lively acidity and precise fruit, finishing in a harmonious aftertaste. This wine is made from the Schiava grape (German: Vernatsch), known for light and fruity red wines. Characteristic are red berry aromas, moderate acidity and low tannins, resulting in a smooth, easy-drinking style. A special feature of Vernacius Solemnis is the practice of cutting the main shoot of two-thirds of the grapes at harvest, leaving them on the vine for another 10–14 days. This leads to natural berry dehydration and concentration of the must. The wine is then matured in large oak casks, adding extra complexity.
