The Weißburgunder IGT “Vom Muschelkalk” 2023 from Weingut Abraham is a single-varietal Pinot Blanc named for the shell-limestone soils (“Muschelkalk”) that impart pronounced minerality. The vines grow over 600 m altitude on the Gfillberg near Eppan, rooted in deep porphyry soil with clay, gravel, loam, and striking fossil-rich limestone layers.
In the glass, it shines with a vivid yellow-green hue, elegant and clear. The nose reveals fresh notes of green apple, citrus, and ripe pear, underpinned by lively alpine acidity. On the palate, it is precise and vibrant, with mineral tension and a long, refined finish. Hand‑selected grapes are fermented spontaneously in 500 l used oak barrels and aged on lees for months. The result is an elegant, tension-filled Pinot Blanc that strikingly expresses its terroir.
