F.E. Trimbach

The winery is managed by the 12th and 13th generations: Pierre Trimbach leads as head winemaker, alongside the long-standing export director Jean, who has represented Trimbach internationally for decades.

Since its founding by Jean Trimbach in 1626 in Riquewihr, Maison Trimbach has stood for an impressive tradition. Over twelve generations, the family has dedicated itself with passion to winemaking in the Alsace region, upholding values such as excellence, heritage, discipline, and vitality. Only recently, the 13th generation joined the estate, ensuring the continuation of this family legacy.
In the 19th century, the winery rose to international fame, particularly under Frédéric Émile Trimbach, whose wines received top honors at the International Wine Exhibition in Brussels in 1898. Since then, his initials "F.E." have become a permanent part of the Maison's name. In the early 20th century, the estate relocated to Ribeauvillé, where it remains to this day.
Today, Trimbach is one of Alsace’s most renowned wine producers, with approximately 60 hectares of estate-owned vineyards. About a third of these lie in prestigious Grand Cru sites such as Clos Sainte-Hune, Geisberg, and Osterberg. Riesling, in particular, is the flagship grape of the house: dry, precise, long-lived, and true to its terroir. The wines consistently reflect the philosophy of “Balance, Balance, Balance” – a guiding principle that defines every aspect of production and winemaking philosophy.
In the field of sustainability, Trimbach has taken a pioneering role. The conversion to organic viticulture began in 2008 with Clos Sainte-Hune and was fully certified across all vineyards by 2023. The estate also practices greening, biodiversity support, and natural pest control, including sheep grazing and massal vine selection for replanting.
The winery is managed by the 12th and 13th generations: Pierre Trimbach leads as head winemaker, alongside the long-standing export director Jean, who has represented Trimbach internationally for decades. They are joined by the next generation – Anne, Frédérique, and Pauline – who oversee exports, communication, and the French market. This blend of deep-rooted tradition and modern sustainability shapes the identity of Trimbach today.
Maison F.E. Trimbach is now considered an essential part of both the Alsatian and international wine world. Its wine range spans from classic, dry Gewürztraminer and Pinot Blanc to the renowned Cuvée Frédéric Emile and the iconic Grand Cru Clos Sainte-Hune. Critics consistently praise the wines’ structure, longevity, and distinctive style, and in 2025, the respected French wine journal La Revue du Vin de France named Trimbach "Brand of the Year."
