Chateau du Tertre
Château du Tertre, a historic winery in the heart of the Margaux appellation, looks back on over a thousand years of history. The winery is located in Bordeaux, more specifically in the Margaux sub-region. The name “Tertre” is derived from the elevated position of the winery, which is located on one of the highest hills in the area. This geographical feature provides excellent conditions for viticulture
.In the 19th century, Château du Tertre achieved worldwide fame, in particular through the classification of 1855, which classified it as a Margaux Grand Cru Classé. In 1997, Dutch businessman Eric Albada Jelgersma bought the property and invested extensively in its renovation to restore its historic splendor. Today, the winery is run by the Helfrich family from Les Grands Chais de France after being sold to a French institutional investor in 2021.
The estate covers 52 hectares of vineyards, where mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot are grown. These varieties give Château du Tertre wines their characteristic structure, concentration and a rich bouquet of aromas. Château du Tertre wines are known for their silkiness and fine structure, characteristics that are typical of Margaux wines. Thanks to the careful care of the vineyards and innovative winemaking techniques, the estate is an outstanding example of the excellence of Bordeaux wines.
