Today, Domaine de la Monette is known for producing high-quality wines from classic Burgundy grape varieties such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Aligoté.
Domaine de la Monette is a historic wine estate located in the heart of Burgundy’s Côte Chalonnaise, near the village of Mercurey. The estate covers around 12–14 hectares of vineyards, mainly within the appellation of Mercurey, but also in Givry, Rully and Bouzeron. The limestone-rich, clay and marl soils give the wines a distinct regional identity that reflects the character of this part of Burgundy.
The estate as it exists today is the result of several successive owners. Originally a long-established family property, it was acquired in 2007 by the Dutch couple Roelof Ligtmans and Marlon Steine, who initiated an extensive restructuring of the domaine. During their tenure, the vineyards were converted to organic farming, officially certified from 2013, and practices such as manual harvesting, lower yields and careful vinification were introduced to produce pure, expressive Burgundy wines.
A major transition occurred at the end of 2022, when Pierre-Etienne Chevallier and his wife Lise took over the domaine. Chevallier, who had gained experience working with renowned Burgundy estates including Domaine de la Vougeraie, continues to pursue a terroir-driven approach, combining organic cultivation with elements of biodynamics. Each parcel is vinified separately to highlight the unique expression of its soil.
Today, Domaine de la Monette is known for producing high-quality wines from classic Burgundy grape varieties such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Aligoté. Under Chevallier’s leadership, the estate has evolved into a dynamic project that blends traditional values with environmentally conscious viticulture, helping to showcase the diversity and quality of the Côte Chalonnaise on an international stage.
