André et Mireille Tissot

Stéphane is often seen as a rebellious visionary and Jura ambassador whose elegant and precise wines — especially his single-vineyard Chardonnays and Savagnins — have achieved a level worthy of comparison with top Burgundy producers.

The Domaine André et Mireille Tissot was founded in 1962 by André Tissot — recently returned from military service in the Algerian War — and his wife Mireille, in Montigny-lès-Arsures, just outside Arbois in the Jura region. Their vision was not merely to grow grapes, but to produce truly high-quality wines — an ambition inspired by encounters with winemakers in Bordeaux, who encouraged André to start vinifying himself. That vision entered a new chapter when their son, Stéphane Tissot, took over the estate at the young age of 19 and completed his first harvest in 1989.
Early on, Stéphane began transforming the estate toward organic farming. By 1999, the domaine had achieved organic certification, followed by biodynamic Demeter certification in 2004. His approach was never dogmatic but guided by a pragmatic pursuit of quality, driven by his passion for outstanding wine.
Today, the domaine covers between 45 and 50 hectares — a considerable size for the Jura — and is renowned for its extremely low yields, often around 25 hectoliters per hectare, aiming for maximum concentration and terroir expression. Stéphane emphasizes parcel-specific vinification, producing over 20 to 35 different cuvées, using native yeasts, minimal intervention, and reduced sulfur, with no fining or filtration. His wines — from Vin Jaune to Pinot Noir, Poulsard, Trousseau, as well as Crémant and Macvin — represent a contemporary interpretation of Jura’s authentic wine culture.
In recent years, Domaine Tissot has emerged as a leading force in modern, terroir-driven viticulture. Stéphane is often seen as a rebellious visionary and Jura ambassador whose elegant and precise wines — especially his single-vineyard Chardonnays and Savagnins — have achieved a level worthy of comparison with top Burgundy producers. His red wines are known for their freshness and balance, with subtle use of oak, while his traditional sous-voile Savagnins, such as the famed “Vin Jaune Les Bruyères,” set new benchmarks. Rising global demand, small production volumes, and growing critical acclaim have firmly established Tissot as a major player on the international wine scene.
