In the 1930s and 1950s, Gaston expanded the estate with two more prestigious plots: Clos du Bourg (acquired in 1953) and Le Mont (1957). These three sites still form the foundation of Huet’s exceptional wines.
Domaine Huet was founded in 1928 by Victor Huët, a former Parisian bistro owner, together with his son Gaston. After suffering health issues as a result of his experiences in World War I, Victor settled in the quiet village of Vouvray and purchased the first of what would become the estate’s legendary vineyards: the Le Haut-Lieu parcel, located on the renowned “Première Côte.” In the 1930s and 1950s, Gaston expanded the estate with two more prestigious plots: Clos du Bourg (acquired in 1953) and Le Mont (1957). These three sites still form the foundation of Huet’s exceptional wines.
Following World War II, the reputation of Domaine Huet grew rapidly. Gaston Huet, himself a prisoner of war in Germany for five years, remained unwavering in his vision. He managed the estate from 1937 until his death in 2002, and also served as mayor of Vouvray for over 40 years, playing a pivotal role in raising the region’s profile. In the 1970s, his son-in-law Noël Pinguet became instrumental in shaping the domaine. Together, they led Huet to embrace biodynamic viticulture in the 1990s, achieving certification in 1993—making the estate a true pioneer in sustainable winegrowing.
The modern era of Domaine Huet began in 2003, when American entrepreneur Anthony Hwang acquired a majority share to secure the estate’s future. Noël Pinguet continued as winemaker until 2012, after which the reins were passed to an experienced team. Today, the Hwang siblings, Sarah and Hugo, oversee the business side, while Benjamin Joliveau—a native of Vouvray who began working closely with longtime winemaker Jean-Bernard Berthomé in 2009—now heads up winemaking. Berthomé, who had been part of the team since 1979, retired after the 2019 vintage. Despite these transitions, Domaine Huet has remained steadfast in its pursuit of quality, and it continues to set the standard for world-class Chenin Blanc.
Today, Domaine Huet is synonymous with wines of remarkable purity, elegance, and longevity. The estate grows only Chenin Blanc and produces it in a wide range of styles—from sparkling (pétillant) to dry (sec), off-dry (demi-sec), and lusciously sweet moelleux. The three iconic terroirs—Le Haut-Lieu, Le Mont, and Clos du Bourg—impart each wine with a distinctive character marked by mineral precision, clarity of structure, and outstanding ageability. Critics and collectors around the globe consider Domaine Huet the benchmark for both Loire Valley wine and Chenin Blanc at large.
