Domaine de Villeneuve

Since 2004, Stanislas Wallut has managed the domaine independently and is also responsible for the entire winemaking process.

The Domaine de Villeneuve is located in the northern part of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation in the southern Rhône Valley, just a few kilometres south of the town of Orange. Originally, the estate was a rather neglected vineyard property until it was acquired in 1993 by Philippe de Roy du Bliquy and the Wallut family.
Shortly after the acquisition, the new owners began restoring old and partially abandoned vineyards while adopting sustainable farming practices. The estate obtained organic certification as early as 1995 and was officially certified biodynamic in 1998, making it one of the early pioneers of biodynamic wine production in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape area.
Since 2004, Stanislas Wallut has managed the domaine independently and is also responsible for the entire winemaking process. Under his leadership, the wines have developed an increasingly distinctive style within the appellation.
The estate covers approximately 8–12 hectares of vineyards, of which around 3.5 hectares are classified within the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, while the remainder is mostly designated as Côtes-du-Rhône. The vineyards are planted with very old vines, averaging about 60 years of age, with some parcels exceeding 100 years.
The soils are marked by a wide range of mineral components, including sand, red and yellow clays, and the characteristic galets roulés—rounded limestone pebbles that store heat during the day and release it to the vines at night. This diversity plays a key role in shaping the wines’ character and complexity.
A central focus for Stanislas Wallut is the expressive power of the terroir and the pursuit of great finesse in the wines. Biodynamic vineyard work aims to achieve healthy, fully ripe grapes, while in the cellar modern, gentle techniques are employed, including fermentation in concrete tanks, selective hand harvesting, and a largely non-invasive approach without heavy extraction.
The importance of traditional mixed planting in the vineyards—where Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault and Clairette grow together—also reflects a strong commitment to authenticity and biodiversity. Today, Domaine de Villeneuve is regarded as one of the smaller yet clearly recognised producers in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Annual production amounts to around 25,000 bottles, all sourced from biodynamically farmed vineyards.
The wines, such as the well-known Châteauneuf-du-Pape “Les Vieilles Vignes”, are noted for their purity, elegance and depth. Compared to the region’s traditionally powerful style, they offer a finer texture and a pronounced expression of terroir character.
Overall, they are considered outstanding examples of biodynamically produced Rhône wines: expressive and sun-kissed, yet marked by minerality and a fresh structural balance.
