Cantina Frentana
Cantina Frentana is a cooperative involving 500 winemakers, mainly small family businesses, who cultivate around 1000 hectares of vineyards in the hills of Frentane: an area that stretches between the last foothills of the Majella Mountains and the magnificent Costa dei Trabocchi in southern Abruzzo. A land of vineyards and olive groves, crossed by streams that flow through wooded valleys.
The generous calcareous soil, the gentle interplay of sea and land breezes and the mitigating effect of the sea underline the vocation of this area to high-quality viticulture, which is based almost exclusively on autochthonous grape varieties. A vocation heard and taken up by experienced winemakers who are aware that the quality of wine depends primarily on the quality of the fruit.
Cantina Frentana was founded in 1958 as a cooperative by a group of “pioneer” winemakers led by Mayor Francesco D'Agostino, while the first harvest took place in 1960. Since then, the company has continued to grow in size, number of members and turnover, going through favourable and less favourable times, but always with the determination to fulfill its mission until it became one of the most important cooperatives in Central and Southern Italy.
