Sergio Arcuri

The Sergio Arcuri winery, located in Cirò Marina, Calabria, has a long and traditional history that dates back to 1880. Founded by Giuseppe Arcuri, a pioneer in viticulture who cultivated the vineyards with simple farming tools and great passion. Today, the winery is run by the fourth generation of Sergio Arcuri and his brother Francesco.

The Cirò region, known for its limestone and clayey soils as well as the Mediterranean climate, offers ideal conditions for growing the indigenous Gaglioppo grape variety. This grape variety, one of the oldest noble grapes in Italy, is at the heart of Sergio Arcuri's wines. Gaglioppo grapes are known for their ability to produce wines with aromas of small red berries, citrus zests, and mineral notes that are reminiscent of a lighter, salty Nebbiolo.

A special feature of the winery is strict adherence to organic farming methods since 2010, certified since 2015. Sergio Arcuri largely dispenses with chemical treatments and uses natural processes to promote the health of the vines. The winemaking takes place in open cement tanks, which allows gentle extraction and the preservation of natural aromas. The so-called Cirò Revolution, a movement to revive traditional winemaking practices in the region, in which Sergio Arcuri is actively involved, is also interesting. This initiative has helped to improve the quality and reputation of Cirò wines worldwide by focusing on the strengths of local grape varieties and sustainable farming methods.
