The Silvano Bolmida winery in Monforte d'Alba in Piedmont is known for its deep-rooted craftsmanship and commitment to the unique terroirs of the Langhe, which offer ideal conditions for growing the noble Nebbiolo grape.
Nebbiolo and Barbera from the hills of Monforte d’Alba
The Silvano Bolmida Estate is located in Monforte d’Alba, in the heart of the Langhe wine region in Piedmont and within the historic Barolo area. The estate lies in the renowned Bussia MGA, one of the most prestigious vineyard areas of the Barolo appellation. The Bolmida family has been connected to viticulture in the Langhe for generations, but the present estate was established in 1999, when Silvano Bolmida and his wife began vinifying the grapes from their family vineyards independently.
Today the estate cultivates around seven hectares of vineyards, mainly located in Bussia and Le Coste di Monforte. Vineyard work focuses on careful management of each individual parcel, with controlled yields and precise vineyard practices. The aim is to express the character of the Langhe soils and microclimate as clearly as possible in the wines.
Traditional Piedmontese grape varieties form the core of the estate’s production.
In particular Nebbiolo plays a central role, as it is used to produce the Barolo DOCG Bussia, one of the estate’s most representative wines. The grapes come from selected parcels within this historic vineyard area and are vinified with the goal of creating structured and age-worthy Barolo wines.
Alongside Nebbiolo, Barbera is another important grape variety for the estate. The Barbera d’Alba Superiore Conca del Grillo is among the winery’s best-known wines. The vineyards of Conca del Grillo form a natural amphitheatre with a mainly western exposure. The wine is designed to highlight the typical freshness and vibrancy of Barbera while adding depth and structure.
The estate also produces smaller quantities of other varieties cultivated in the Langhe hills. However, Silvano Bolmida deliberately focuses on a limited number of wines in which the connection between grape variety, vineyard and territory remains clearly recognisable.
