Jerzu

Antichi Poderi Jerzu, founded in 1950 by village doctor Josto Miglior, is an important wine cooperative in the Ogliastra region on Sardinia's east coast. Jerzu, known for its pristine landscape and traditions, is a village characterized by its remarkable number of residents over 100 years old. These traditions are also reflected in wine production, which is supported by 430 winegrowers and is led by winemakers Biagio Boi and Franco Bernabei.

The winery is located in the historic Ogliastra region and covers 650 hectares of vineyards that range from the slopes of the Gennargentu Mountains to the coast. This geographical diversity and the various microclimates offer winemakers numerous opportunities to mix and highlight the unique characteristics of individual plots. The region is known for its limestone and slate soils, which give the wines a special minerality.

The winery is particularly known for its Vermentino and Cannonau wines. The “Telavè” Vermentino and the “Bantu” Cannonau are fresh, young expressions of these classic Sardinian varieties. The “Lucean Le Stelle” Vermentino, on the other hand, comes from a stricter selection of grapes and is stored on lees for six months, which gives it a more intensive flavour. The “Marghia” Cannonau is obtained from 30-year-old vines and matures in Slavonian oak for 12 months, giving it complex aromas of ripe blackberries and wild fruits.
Interestingly enough, the winery is located in a region known for its long lifespan, which is often attributed to the local diet and lifestyle, which includes enjoying local wine. This combination of tradition, quality and community makes Antichi Poderi Jerzu a special place in Sardinia.
