Kornell
The Kornell winery is picturesquely located in Siebeneich, a district of Terlan in South Tyrol, Italy. This region, nestled between the Dolomites and the vineyards of the Adige Valley, offers ideal conditions for viticulture. The unique location, characterized by the Mediterranean climate and the cool downwinds from the Alps, creates a perfect terroir for high-quality wines.
The history of the winery goes back a long way: viticulture was documented here as early as the 13th century. The Brigl family, who have owned the winery since 1927, continues this long tradition. Florian Brigl, the current owner, sees his work not just as a job, but as a passion and a legacy of his ancestors. He underlines the importance of living in harmony with nature and passing on this tradition to future generations.
The winery covers 22 hectares, on which various grape varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Lagrein and St. Magdalener grow. The vineyards are located at altitudes of between 270 and 550 meters and benefit from a southerly orientation and a soil of sandy clay and porphyry rock. This combination gives Kornell Winery wines their characteristic taste and structure.
The estate's historic wine cellar, which is surrounded by metre-thick walls, is particularly impressive. Here, after controlled fermentation in steel tanks, the wines mature in barriques and large oak barrels for between 14 and 18 months before being stored in bottles for a further ten months. This careful process guarantees wines of the highest quality.
