Weingut Niedrist is one of South Tyrol’s most exciting emerging wineries, located in the picturesque village of Girlan (Cornaiano), a hamlet of Eppan in the prestigious Überetsch wine region. For decades, Franz Niedrist has focused uncompromisingly on quality, crafting wines with precision, depth, and a strong sense of origin.
The vineyards lie at 450 to over 600 meters above sea level, benefitting from sun-drenched slopes, cool nights, and extended ripening periods – ideal conditions for producing structured, mineral-driven wines. Key varieties include Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, Lagrein, and Schiava, all vinified with great attention to detail and terroir expression.
Among the standout wines is the bold yet refined Lagrein Riserva DOC Gries "Berger Gei" – a deep, elegant red with firm tannins and excellent aging potential. Other notable labels include the elegant Pinot Blanc "Berg", the layered Pinot Noir Riserva, and a genuine Schiava that embodies regional character.
Franz Niedrist practices sustainable viticulture, hand-harvesting with strict selection and maintaining low yields. His wines are authentic, long-lived, and full of personality – true reflections of South Tyrol’s unique terroir.
