Weingut Hirtzberger is located in Spitz an der Donau, nestled between mountains and the flowing Danube River. For five generations, the Hirtzberger family has cultivated wine here on an estate dating back to the 13th century. Despite modern equipment, the winery remains deeply rooted in the traditions of the Wachau and its own family legacy.
The estate’s main goal is to produce wines of clarity, character, and uncompromising purity. This is achieved through refined practices developed over decades – grounded in time-honored methods handed down from previous generations. Every wine is crafted to authentically express its origin, grape variety, vineyard (Riede), and vintage, making the terroir unmistakably tangible in the glass.
A prime example of this philosophy is the Honivogl vineyard, located at the foot of the Singerriedel. Here, the best Grüner Veltliner grapes ripen each year on highly mineral-rich, south-facing soils – ideal for producing one of Austria’s finest white wines.
Another highlight is the steep and storied Singerriedel itself, rising just behind the winery. For over 20 years, Hirtzberger has devoted special care to restoring its historic stone terraces. The vineyard’s extreme mineral content – composed of gneiss, mica, slate, and weathered primary rock – gives the wines exceptional depth and structure.
