Weingut Leitz, also known as Weingut Josef Leitz, is located in Rüdesheim am Rhein in the renowned Rheingau wine-growing region.
The winemaking tradition of the Leitz family dates back to 1744. After the destruction in the Second World War, Josef Leitz rebuilt the winery. In 1985, his grandson Johannes Leitz took over the farm with a vineyard area of 2.9 hectares and led it to international success.
Today, the winery covers around 130 hectares, of which 40 hectares are owned by the owner.
The winery's vineyards are located in the renowned locations of Rüdesheim Mountain, including Berg Schlossberg, Berg Rottland and Berg Kaisersteinfels. These sites are known for their quartzite and slate soils, which give the wines a special minerality. The focus is on the Riesling grape variety, which accounts for around 95% of the cultivated area; the remaining 5% is planted with Pinot Noir.
Johannes Leitz attaches great importance to the “hands-off principle,” in which the wines are moved as little as possible and protected from the influence of oxygen in order to develop their own character. His wines have an individual signature and reflect the terroir of Rüdesheim Mountain.
Weingut Leitz is a member of the Association of German Prädikatsweingüter (VDP) and has received several awards. In 2011, Johannes Leitz was named “Winemaker of the Year” by Gault Millau. The wines regularly receive high ratings in renowned wine guides and are among the top wines in their category.
In addition to classic wines, the winery also offers a non-alcoholic line called “One Two Zero”, which is produced using a gentle dealcoholization process. This product line is becoming increasingly popular and reflects the trend towards more health-conscious consumption
