Since 1987, Wilhelm Weil has continued the estate’s tradition with its unique “château character,” establishing Robert Weil as a worldwide symbol of premium German Riesling.
As early as 1875, Dr. Robert Weil made waves in the Rheingau wine world when he began acquiring vineyards in Kiedrich, laying the foundation for what would become one of Germany’s most prestigious wine estates. With vision and entrepreneurial spirit, he elevated his estate to stand alongside the region’s historic wineries, many of which were formerly owned by nobility or the Church.
In the 1920s, production of the estate’s legendary Monte Vacano was discontinued. This special dry Riesling, sourced from a singular phyllite-rich parcel called Lay – which links the famed Gräfenberg and Turmberg vineyards – was brought back to life with the 2018 vintage. Aged nearly two years in large oak casks, Monte Vacano is a pure, fresh, and remarkably elegant dry Rheingau Rieslingwith age-worthy structure and mineral tension – a true milestone in the evolution of German dry wines.
Since 1987, the estate has been under the leadership of Wilhelm Weil, the founder’s great-grandson. With a relentless focus on quality in the vineyard, he has successfully carried tradition into the modern age. His work has transformed Weingut Robert Weil, with its distinctive “château character,” into a global symbol of fine German Riesling culture.
