The first generation of Coravin was based on an innovative technology: a thin, sterile needle pierces the cork to extract the wine using pure argon gas.

The history of Coravin begins in 2008 in the United States, when Greg Lambrecht, an engineer and entrepreneur with a passion for wine, founded the eponymous company. Lambrecht had a clear goal: to revolutionize the way wine is enjoyed. Many wine enthusiasts faced the problem that bottles would quickly oxidize and lose quality once opened. Lambrecht’s vision was to develop a system that allows wine to be poured from the bottle without removing the cork, so that each bottle could remain fresh for weeks, months, or even years.

The first generation of Coravin was based on an innovative technology: a thin, sterile needle pierces the cork to extract the wine using pure argon gas. The gas replaces the extracted volume and prevents air from entering the bottle, thus avoiding oxidation. This groundbreaking system allowed wine lovers to enjoy individual glasses without wasting the rest of the bottle – a true revolution for restaurants, sommeliers, and private collectors.

In the following years, Coravin expanded internationally and developed numerous models and accessories tailored to different needs, from entry-level devices to professional systems for the hospitality industry and wine collectors.
