A. F. Lucano 1894

The production of Lucano Amaro relies on a carefully guarded combination of local and exotic herbs, fruits, roots, and spices.

The history of A. F. Lucano begins in 1894 in Pisticci, a town in the southern Italian region of Basilicata. The founder, Pasquale Vena, developed the first Lucano Amaro, an herbal bitter based on a secret recipe containing over 30 different herbs and spices. The goal was to create a digestif that would aid digestion while offering a distinctive, balanced flavor. Already in its early years, Lucano gained regional recognition and became a staple of Italian aperitif and digestif culture.
The production of Lucano Amaro relies on a carefully guarded combination of local and exotic herbs, fruits, roots, and spices. These ingredients are first macerated and then distilled to achieve the characteristic aromatic nuances and the bittersweet balance. The skillful craftsmanship of the recipe, combined with traditional production methods, makes Lucano one of Italy’s most renowned amari to this day.
Today, A. F. Lucano is an internationally recognized company with products distributed worldwide. In addition to the classic Lucano Amaro, the portfolio includes special editions and variations refined through different aging or flavoring processes. Despite its global expansion, the company remains true to its tradition: quality, craftsmanship, and the distinctive complexity of herbal aromas are at the heart of every production. Lucano Amaro is not only a symbol of Southern Italian liqueur artistry but also a staple of modern bar culture, enjoyed in classic cocktails or neat as a digestif.
