In August 2006, The Bitter Truth launched its first products: Orange Bitters and Old Time Aromatic Bitters, followed by Lemon Bitters.
The story of The Bitter Truth begins in 2006, when Munich bartenders Stephan Berg and Alexander Hauck came up with the idea of producing and distributing high-quality cocktail bitters in Germany. Prior to that, such products were scarcely available in Germany, even though they were widely used in international bars. Both founders already had experience making bitters for their own bars and possessed extensive collections of historical and contemporary bitters.
In August 2006, The Bitter Truth launched its first products: Orange Bitters and Old Time Aromatic Bitters, followed by Lemon Bitters. Since then, the range has been continuously expanded to include Jerry Thomas Bitters, Creole Bitters, Celery Bitters, Grapefruit Bitters, Chocolate Bitters, Peach Bitters, Cucumber Bitters, and Olive Bitters. Particularly noteworthy is the reconstruction of Bogart’s Bitters, lost for over a century, which was introduced in 2018.
In addition to bitters, The Bitter Truth began producing liqueurs and flavored spirits, including Pink Gin, Pimento Dram, Golden Falernum, Violet Liqueur, and Elderflower Liqueur. These products were developed to enrich the variety and complexity of cocktails and to support the revival of classic cocktail recipes.
Today, The Bitter Truth is internationally recognized and regarded as one of the leading brands in cocktail bitters and flavored spirits. The company has received numerous awards, including the “Best New Product” at the Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans in 2010 for the Celery Bitters. Its products are exported worldwide and can be found in many renowned bars and liquor stores. The company remains true to its philosophy, offering high-quality, handcrafted products that enhance the art of cocktail mixing.
