Peter Sölva

Historical records show that the family has been cultivating vines, pressing grapes, and marketing wine continuously since 1731, now in its tenth generation.

The Peter Sölva winery is one of the oldest wine estates in Caldaro (South Tyrol). Historical records show that the family has been cultivating vines, pressing grapes, and marketing wine continuously since 1731, now in its tenth generation. From early on, traditional viticulture was closely linked with a strong sense of regional identity, with family heritage serving as the foundation of the brand’s image.
In recent decades, under the leadership of Stephan (or Stefan) Sölva, the estate has developed a well-defined wine philosophy: production is divided into two main lines with historical references – DeSilva, paying homage to the family’s original name and the character of the soil, and Amistar, representing the family’s personal signature. The winemaking approach combines meticulous grape selection with a balance of modern cellar techniques and traditional craftsmanship, emphasizing origin, structure, and individuality.
Today, Peter Sölva produces around 60% red wines from the lower vineyards around Lake Caldaro (224–400 m a.s.l.) and 40% white wines from hillside plots (400–600 m). The range includes both native varieties such as Lagrein, Vernatsch (Grossvernatsch), and Gewürztraminer, as well as international ones like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc, crafted as varietals or blends.
Wine guides and professional journals often describe the winery as producing “wines of origin and character, with individuality and edge” – a deliberate stance beyond mainstream production. The Goldgasse wine shop in Caldaro serves as both a showcase and meeting place for wine lovers. Through modern vinification, selective single-vineyard projects, and clearly defined wine lines, the estate succeeds in uniting family tradition, terroir expression, and contemporary wine aesthetics.
