Specialty coffees from regions such as Colombia, Kenya, and Papua New Guinea are roasted separately and processed into cold brew.
Mr Black Spirits Co. was founded in 2013 by designer Tom Baker and award-winning Australian distiller Philip Moore. Their vision was to bring Australian coffee culture into the world of spirits and create a high-quality coffee liqueur distinguished by authentic coffee flavor and craftsmanship. The result was the Mr Black Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur, a premium liqueur notable for its intense coffee flavor and reduced sweetness compared to other coffee liqueurs.
Mr Black is produced in its own roasting and distillation facility north of Sydney, Australia. Specialty coffees from regions such as Colombia, Kenya, and Papua New Guinea are roasted separately and processed into cold brew. This is then combined with Australian wheat alcohol to produce a clear, intensely flavored coffee liqueur. Mr Black is also notable for its high caffeine content – around 1100 mg per liter – making it especially appealing to coffee lovers.
Since its founding, Mr Black has become an internationally recognized brand. In 2015, Diageo, a global leader in the spirits industry, acquired a minority stake in Mr Black through the Distill Ventures accelerator program. In September 2022, Diageo acquired the brand outright, after Mr Black had become the leading premium coffee liqueur in the United States and was available in 22 countries.
Today, Mr Black stands for quality, innovation, and the fusion of coffee culture with the world of spirits. In addition to the classic Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur, the brand offers limited editions and variations that continue to embody the philosophy of craftsmanship and authentic coffee flavor.
