The Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso DOC Marogne 2023 from Zeni is a powerful, characterful red wine from the classic Valpolicella region in Veneto, northeast of Verona. It belongs to the prestigious Marogne selection, crafted with low yields per hectare and careful grape selection to produce full-bodied, elegant wines.
This wine is a Ripasso: after the initial fermentation of the Valpolicella, the young wine is passed over the leftover Amarone grape skins. This second fermentation – known as the Ripasso technique – adds deeper color, more intense aromas, greater body, and a richer structure, echoing Amarone characteristics while maintaining the Valpolicella’s typical lightness.
In the glass, the Marogne 2023 displays a deep ruby color and a complex bouquet of ripe dark fruits, particularly cherries and blackberries, enhanced by warm, spicy notes and subtle elegance. On the palate, it is full-bodied, silky, and well-structured, with concentrated fruit, smooth tannins, and a long, harmonious finish that combines power and balance.
The blend is made from the native Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella grapes, which together give the Ripasso its rich fruit profile and characteristic texture.
