The Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2021 “Pian delle Vigne” is a classic, expressive red wine from the heart of Tuscany, produced from 100% Sangiovese, the emblematic grape variety of the Brunello area, where it reaches its highest expression. The wine comes from the Pian delle Vigne Estate, owned by the historic Antinori family, who have managed the property since 1995 and cultivate one of the region’s most traditional interpretations of Brunello. A defining feature of Pian delle Vigne is ageing in large oak casks, designed to preserve the purity of Sangiovese fruit while building an elegant and powerful structure.
The 2021 vintage presents an elegant, nuanced Brunello that successfully combines tradition with modern precision. Following hand harvesting and careful fermentation, the wine undergoes extended ageing in wood, resulting in a dense and layered structure. The strict DOCG regulations for Brunello di Montalcino, including lengthy ageing requirements prior to release, ensure a wine that can be enjoyed both in its youth and after long cellaring.
In the glass, the wine shows an intense ruby red colour, suggesting depth and concentration. On the nose, complex aromas of ripe red fruits such as cherry and marasca emerge, accompanied by floral notes, balsamic and menthol nuances, subtle hints of tobacco and refined spice. On the palate, the Brunello is harmonious, elegant and powerful, supported by finely integrated tannins and vibrant freshness. The long finish reveals layers of spice, earthy tones and balsamic complexity. A wine of refinement and depth, suitable for immediate enjoyment as well as extended ageing in the cellar.
