The Blauburgunder Riserva DOC Mazon 2022 from Kurtatsch Winery is an expressive, complex Pinot Noir from one of South Tyrol’s most renowned vineyard sites. The Mazon vineyard, together with Glen, is considered one of the best Pinot Noir locations in Italy: cooler temperatures, moderate sun exposure, and clay‑gravel soils allow slow and even grape ripening, resulting in exceptional complexity.
In the glass, the Mazon 2022 displays an intense ruby red color with a dark core, signaling its concentration. The nose is refined and layered, with aromas of black cherries, forest berries, and violet, accompanied by earthy and leafy notes as well as subtle hints of toast and undergrowth. On the palate, it is powerful yet elegant, with lively acidity, ripe fruit, and well-integrated tannins that provide depth, structure, and a long, harmonious finish.
Vinification includes cold maceration, followed by spontaneous fermentation and malolactic conversion, then about 12 months aging in barriques, completed by additional bottle maturation to fully develop complexity and structure. The combination of fruit, minerality, and delicate oak notes makes the Mazon 2022 a refined and distinctive Pinot Noir.
The Riserva designation indicates longer aging compared to the classic Blauburgunder, giving the wine extra depth, harmony, and aging potential – perfect for enjoying now or further maturing in the cellar.
