The Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2023 “Marchese Antinori” comes from the renowned Tenuta Tignanello, a historic estate in the heart of the Chianti Classico area, owned by the prestigious Antinori family, one of Italy’s oldest and most influential wine producers with over 26 generations of winemaking tradition. This Riserva is primarily based on Sangiovese, complemented by a small proportion of Cabernet Franc, adding depth and structure to the wine. As a Riserva, it complies with stricter DOCG ageing requirements, involving extended maturation periods that result in greater complexity and ageing potential.
Vinification begins with gentle destemming and pressing, followed by controlled fermentation in stainless steel and malolactic fermentation. The wine then ages for about one year in French and Hungarian oak barriques, followed by a further 12 months of bottle ageing. This extended maturation, typical of the Riserva category, allows for finer tannins, enhanced aromatic depth and a harmonious overall development.
In the glass, the wine shows an intense ruby red colour. The bouquet reveals ripe red fruit aromas such as cherry and raspberry, accompanied by floral notes and elegant hints of spice and vanilla from oak ageing. On the palate, it is balanced and velvety, with ripe tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, persistent finish where fruit and spice integrate seamlessly.
