The Château Léoville Poyferré 2016, a 2ème Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Julien, impresses with its deep, almost black color and violet reflections. On the nose, it reveals intense aromas of violet, black cherry, and blackcurrant, complemented by notes of dark chocolate, menthol, and fragrant earth.
On the palate, this wine is full-bodied and opulent, with brilliant concentration and perfectly balanced tannins. The ripe black fruits are accompanied by hints of smoked meat and cigar box, leading to a long and harmonious finish.
The 2016 vintage blend consists of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. The high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon gives the wine structure and blackcurrant aromas, while Merlot contributes softness and plum notes. Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc add complexity and spicy nuances.
A distinctive feature of the 2016 vintage is its exceptional balance and freshness, making it one of the most impressive wines of that year.
The climatic conditions allowed for a slow and even ripening of the grapes, resulting in remarkable purity and precision in the wine.
Under the leadership of the Cuvelier family, Château Léoville Poyferré has established itself as one of the top estates of the appellation, known for its opulent yet balanced wines that harmoniously blend tradition and modernity.
