The Wunsch & Mann estate can look back on a long and deeply rooted history while also embodying modern principles of viticulture and sustainability. As early as 1793 – more than two centuries ago – the family began cultivating vines and making wine in and around the Alsatian village of Wettolsheim, making Wunsch & Mann one of the region’s most traditional and historic wine producers.
The present-day winery traces its origins to 1948, when Joseph Wunsch and Joseph Mann founded the estate together — a foundation upon which the Mann family continues to build, carrying the business forward through several generations. Within this family continuity, Wunsch & Mann is committed to viticulture characterised by precision and personality, uniting vine-growing, vinification, maturation, and ageing under one roof in Wettolsheim.
A major turning point in the estate’s recent history was the decision to convert to organic viticulture: since 2008 they have been cultivating their vineyards according to ecological principles — a clear commitment to sustainability and respect for land and nature. With around 20–28 hectares of vineyards, depending on the source, Wunsch & Mann tends some of the finest slopes around Wettolsheim and neighbouring villages such as Eguisheim, Colmar, and Wintzenheim.
Today the estate offers a broad range of wines: classic Alsatian white wines, Grands Crus, late-harvest wines (“Vendanges Tardives”), and of course sparkling wines under the Crémant d’Alsace appellation. The Grands Crus sites, including Steingrubler, Hengst, and Pfersigberg, demonstrate how strongly Wunsch & Mann emphasises terroir expression and longevity.
At the same time, the winery remains welcoming and vibrant: visitors are warmly received — with cellar tours and tastings often accompanied by regional delicacies and the opportunity to sample several wines in a relaxed atmosphere. In this way, Wunsch & Mann successfully combines centuries-old winemaking tradition with openness, sustainability, and a diverse wine offering for today’s wine lovers.
