Pomerol, the smallest and youngest of the big Bordeaux appellations, are particularly popular with connoisseurs. The region stretches covers over 800 hectares and produces around 4 million bottles a year full-bodied, fleshy red wines. Merlot dominates 80% of the cultivated area, while Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon are also grown. Pomerols wines combine Burgundian fruitiness with depth and sensuality. The region only developed into a top region in the 19th century and today offers some of the most sought-after wines in the world
