Pomerol, the smallest Bordeaux appellation, covers 800 hectares and produces 4 million bottles of full-bodied red wines, dominated by 80% Merlot.
Pomerol is a small yet prestigious wine appellation located on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, in France. Despite its modest size, it ranks among the most sought-after regions in the world for Merlot-based red wines. Its charm lies in the unique blend of elegant structure, silky texture, and deep complexity. Red wine from Pomerol typically features a dominant share of Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc. The soils – rich in clay, sand, and iron – contribute to the wines’ layered character and aging potential. Top Pomerol wines combine ripe fruit with finesse and a velvety mouthfeel. 

Renowned producers include Château Clinet, known for bold, long-lived wines, and La Conseillante, praised for its floral, refined, and balanced style. These estates capture the essence of the appellation’s elegance and consistency. Though Pomerol lacks an official classification system, its wines are among the most exclusive and valuable from the entire Bordeaux region.
