Above all, the parcels with grey clay and sandy gravel are considered outstanding terroirs for Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
As early as 1871, Louis Nicolas caused a stir by acquiring Château La Conseillante, thus bringing the estate in Pomerol into the possession of the Nicolas family. Since then, the family has continuously invested in modernising the cellars, leading to more precise vinification and exceptional wines.
La Conseillante – a Legend
In the 1970s, Francis and Bernard Nicolas were among the first estates in Pomerol to introduce modern cellar techniques. Not a single year passed without progress. This era gave birth to the famous cuvée La Conseillante, in which the finest qualities of Merlot combine with the elegant character of Pomerol. In the 1980s, the Nicolas family acquired additional parcels to further enhance the quality and diversity of their wines. With these wines, Château La Conseillante once again set benchmarks for the style and quality of modern Pomerol. Above all, the plots with grey clay and sandy gravel are regarded as exceptional terroirs for Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
Duo de La Conseillante – a Revolutionary
For Château La Conseillante, improving vineyard quality has long been one of the key goals in preparation for the next century. In this spirit, the second wine Duo de La Conseillante completes the cycle that began with the creation of the legendary La Conseillante: a revolution in the wine market that deliberately defied the norms of its time. It marked the renaissance of Pomerol wines. Full-bodied and complex, with impressive structure and a long finish – quite simply, a cult wine.
Another milestone at La Conseillante is the ongoing improvement of the vineyards and cellar techniques, driven by the fifth generation of the Nicolas family since 2003. These efforts, expressed through intensely fruity aromas and nuances of violet and truffle, herald the oenology of the 21st century.
