Broglia

The estate of Tenuta La Meirana is mentioned in documents as early as 972 AD, when the Bishop of Genoa confirmed vineyards and chestnut groves in the territory of “Meirana.”

The roots of the Broglia winery run deep into the vineyard landscape of Piedmont surrounding Gavi: the estate of Tenuta La Meirana is mentioned in documents as early as 972 AD, when the Bishop of Genoa confirmed vineyards and chestnut groves in the territory of “Meirana.” In 1972, Bruno Broglia – an entrepreneur from the textile industry – purchased this historic property, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the company. Shortly thereafter, in 1974, the first wine under the Broglia label was released, coinciding with the year in which the Gavi area officially received DOC status.
From the outset, Broglia focused on modernization and quality improvements: in the early 1980s the estate introduced stainless-steel tanks to preserve the freshness and minerality of its white wines – a pioneering move in a region where concrete and wood were still the norm. The winery also entered into a partnership with the University of Turin to study and further develop the native Cortese grape variety.
Today, the estate is managed by the third generation of the family: Roberto and Filippo Broglia lead production across approximately 65–110 hectares of vineyards located exclusively around Gavi. The portfolio centers mainly on white wines made from Cortese, with the flagship label “Bruno Broglia Gavi di Gavi” crafted from older vines planted in the 1950s. Broglia is also increasingly active in wine tourism, offering vineyard tours, tastings, and on-site accommodation, providing visitors with a comprehensive experience in this region rich in tradition.
