Muri Gries Abbey Winery
The MURI-GRIES monastery winery, nestled in the picturesque vineyards around Bolzano, represents a unique fusion of monastic life and cutting-edge winery work. Its roots go back to 1845, when Benedictine monks from Muri, Switzerland, took over the Augustinian canons monastery in Gries and thus continued a long tradition of viticulture. This historic takeover marked the beginning of a lasting symbiosis of monastery, winery and winery.
On 35 hectares of first-class vineyards, MURI-GRIES focuses on producing excellent wines, with the “Abbey Muri” line standing out in particular. This line has been made from grapes from the best locations since 1989 and symbolises the quest for the highest quality. The winery combines traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology, including stainless steel fermentation tanks, large wooden barrels and barriques, to preserve the integrity of each grape and optimize the quality of each wine.
The MURI-GRIES philosophy reflects a deep connection with its own tradition and the unconditional will to shine through continuous learning and innovation in winemaking. Every detail is taken care of to produce top-quality wines that honor the monastery's rich history and heritage.
