The Röck winery in Villanders, Eisacktal, is run by Hannes and Carmen together with their parents. They have switched to organic and are avoiding additives in the cellar, which makes their wines particularly authentic.
Röck Estate is located in Villanders in the Eisack Valley of South Tyrol and is a small family-run wine estate. The vineyards lie on sunny slopes above the town of Klausen and are managed by Hannes and Carmen Augschöll together with their family. The vines grow at elevations between 550 and 700 metres on soils rich in quartz phyllite, which are typical for the Eisack Valley. These alpine conditions allow for a slow ripening of the grapes and result in wines with freshness, vibrant acidity and pronounced minerality.
The estate cultivates around 2.5 hectares of vineyards and focuses on small-scale, handcrafted wine production. In recent years the vineyard work has increasingly shifted towards organic farming, while cellar practices aim for minimal intervention. Spontaneous fermentations, gentle grape handling and careful vinification are used to preserve the character of the grape varieties and the alpine terroir.
One of the most important grape varieties at the estate is Riesling, which develops remarkable precision and lively acidity in the high-altitude vineyards of the Eisack Valley. Other varieties grown at Röck include Grüner Veltliner, Müller Thurgau, Sylvaner, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Grigio. Among the red grapes, Rotburger (Zweigelt) and Pinot Noir are cultivated and produce structured yet elegant wines.
The combination of alpine terroir, high elevation and natural vineyard practices defines the style of Röck Estate: authentic wines with strong minerality and a clear expression of the Eisack Valley.
