The Veltliner IGT “Johanna” 2024 from Röck Estate originates from the
Eisack Valley in South Tyrol, one of the region’s most renowned areas for precise and mineral-driven white wines. The grapes grow on steep vineyards around
Villanders, at elevations of approximately
580 to 630 metres above sea level, on gravelly soils rich in quartz phyllite. The combination of altitude, mineral soils and the cool Alpine climate with strong temperature differences between day and night creates ideal conditions for aromatic, fresh and structured white wines.
The wine is produced from 100%
Grüner Veltliner, a grape variety that thrives in the Eisack Valley and is known here for producing elegant and mineral-driven wines. After careful hand harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed. Fermentation takes place spontaneously in neutral wooden barrels, followed by around
11 months of ageing on the full lees in the same vessels. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration, reflecting the artisanal philosophy of Röck Estate and preserving the natural character of the grape and its Alpine terroir.
The name “Johanna” represents a range of expressive white wines from selected vineyard sites of the estate. The focus lies on authenticity, careful vinification and the clear expression of the Eisack Valley’s unique terroir.
In the glass the wine shows a pale yellow colour with greenish reflections. The bouquet reveals fresh aromas of lemon, white peach and delicate floral notes, accompanied by subtle mineral and spicy nuances. On the palate the wine is dry, vibrant and precise, with lively acidity and an elegant structure. The finish is clean and balanced, highlighting the distinctive character of Grüner Veltliner grown in South Tyrol’s Alpine vineyards.
