Comitissa

The vineyards lie between 500 and 800 metres above sea level in Cornaiano, Appiano Monte, Caldaro Bellavista and Glaning near San Genesio

The “Comitissa” label represents the prestige sparkling wine project of the family-owned winery Lorenz Martini, located in South Tyrol’s wine-growing region, specifically in Cornaiano near Bolzano. The winery was founded in 1985 as a small family-run operation. From the very beginning, the focus has been on producing high-quality sparkling wines, made using the traditional bottle fermentation method (“méthode classique”).
The name “Comitissa” comes from ancient Latin and means “countess”, symbolizing elegance, refinement and an aristocratic aura for this exclusive line. Today, Comitissa is regarded as one of South Tyrol’s finest sparkling wine labels, produced only in outstanding vintages and exclusively from carefully selected grapes of Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
The vineyards lie between 500 and 800 metres above sea level in Cornaiano, Appiano Monte, Caldaro Bellavista and Glaning near San Genesio, benefiting from a precise interplay between alpine altitude and Mediterranean influences. A defining feature of Comitissa is its extended aging on the lees, lasting at least eight years in vaulted cellars before release. The wine is distinguished by its fine and persistent mousse, refined aromatic complexity (notes of hazelnut, white peach, white flowers, quince, honey, brioche), and a saline, long-lasting finish.
As a family business specializing in premium sparkling wines, Lorenz Martini operates within a niche defined by craftsmanship, small-scale production and uncompromising quality. With the Comitissa line, the winery demonstrates how South Tyrolean sparkling wine can rise above simple effervescence, uniting altitude, traditional method and meticulous selection.
