Kettmeir

A key turning point came in 1964, when Kettmeir began producing sparkling wines

The Kettmeir Winery was founded in 1919 by Giuseppe Kettmeir in Caldaro (Alto Adige/South Tyrol), right at the transition of the region from the Austro-Hungarian monarchy to Italy. Initially, Kettmeir focused on classic wine production, with native grape varieties and local vineyard traditions forming the foundation.
A key turning point came in 1964, when Kettmeir began producing sparkling wines, initially using the Charmat method. In 1992, the next step was taken toward producing wines using the Metodo Classico (bottle fermentation), aiming for higher quality and elegance in sparkling wines.
Today, Kettmeir is one of the most renowned wineries in Alto Adige. The company works with around 60-70 long-standing winegrowing partners on vineyards at various altitudes – from Caldaro to Soprabolzano to Pochi di Salorno. The region, with its alpine climate, diverse soils, and large temperature fluctuations, provides ideal conditions for producing wines with character.
Modernization and sustainability play a key role: The winery has been technologically and energetically upgraded, for example, with optimized insulation and the use of geothermal energy for sparkling wine production (Metodo Classico).
Kettmeir’s range includes a spectrum of classic still wines as well as high-quality sparkling wines with bottle fermentation, reflecting the winery's commitment to blending tradition and innovation. Following the motto “Progressio in traditione” (“Progress in tradition”), the winery stays true to its roots while remaining open to new approaches to quality.
