Peter Sölva

The Peter Sölva Estate in Caldaro is one of the longest-established privately run wine estates in South Tyrol. Historical documents confirm that the family has been cultivating vineyards in Caldaro continuously since 1731, making the estate one of the oldest wine producers in the village. Over the generations, knowledge about viticulture, vineyard sites and grape varieties has been carefully preserved and further developed. Today the winery combines deep family roots with a clear quality philosophy within modern South Tyrolean winemaking. The vineyards are located around Caldaro and Lake Caldaro, one of the best-known wine-growing landscapes in South Tyrol. The sites range from warmer valley locations to vineyards on higher slopes.

The warmer sites mainly produce structured red wines, while the cooler hillside vineyards provide favourable conditions for aromatic white wines. Overall, about 60 % of the production consists of red wines, while around 40 % is dedicated to white wines. The estate cultivates both international grape varieties and traditional South Tyrolean grapes. Among the key red varieties are Cabernet Franc, MerlotLagrein, Cabernet Sauvignon and Schiava (Vernatsch), which reach excellent ripeness in the warm vineyards around Lake Caldaro. The range is complemented by white wines such as Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, SauvignonGewürztraminer and Pinot Blanc, grown mainly in higher-elevation vineyards.

A central element of the winery’s production is the Amistar line, one of the estate’s most recognised wine projects. These wines represent a distinctive style with an international influence and are partly matured in barriques. In particular, the red Amistar wines are based on carefully selected grape lots and stand out for their concentration, structure and ageing potential.

Alongside the Amistar wines, the winery also produces additional ranges, including the DeSilva wines, named after the family’s original surname. While this line focuses more strongly on expressing individual vineyard sites and soils, Amistar reflects the personal signature of the family.

With around twelve hectares of vineyards, the Peter Sölva Winery deliberately maintains a relatively small production. The focus lies on careful vineyard work, selective harvesting and vinification methods that clearly express origin and vintage. The result is a range of distinctive South Tyrolean wines closely connected to the vineyards surrounding Caldaro.
