After a period of decline, the estate was revitalized in 1968 when it was acquired by the Baj Macario family. Under the leadership of Anna Baj Macario and oenologist Stefano Casadei, Castello del Trebbio has undergone a complete transformation into a modern agricultural hub, carefully integrating tradition with innovation. Today, the estate encompasses around 350 hectares, including roughly 55–60 hectares of vineyards planted across sun-exposed slopes. The vineyards primarily feature Sangiovese, complemented by Merlot, Syrah, Ciliegiolo, and Canaiolo, supported by white varieties for select wines. Situated at higher elevations typical of Chianti Rufina, the vineyards benefit from cooler mountain influences and soils rich in clay and alberese, giving the wines their trademark elegance, structure, and long ageing potential.
Sustainability and biodiversity are at the core of Castello del Trebbio’s philosophy, ensuring balance and purity in every bottle.
Building on these values, the estate has become a pioneer in holistic, environmentally aligned agriculture. Their Biointegrale approach—an evolution of organic and biodynamic principles—emphasizes soil vitality, ecological balance, and renewable energy. This philosophy extends well beyond the vineyards: the estate also produces premium extra-virgin olive oil, saffron, and ancient grains. Visitors can explore this integrated ecosystem through immersive experiences such as guided vineyard walks, tastings, cooking classes, and stays in beautifully restored farmhouses that reflect the rustic charm of rural Tuscany.
Whether you're enjoying De’ Pazzi, the Chianti Rufina Riserva, or exploring the full range of organic Chianti wines, Castello del Trebbio offers a harmonious blend of tradition, innovation, and quality.
