The F.X. Pichler estate, located in Dürnstein in the Wachau, is renowned for its outstanding white wines, particularly those made from Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. Among the estate’s most celebrated wines are the Grüner Veltliner "Dürnsteiner", which showcases the typical freshness and minerality of the region, and the Riesling Ried Steinertal, known for its depth, complexity, and expressive fruit character. The Pichler family has cultivated the vineyards for generations with great dedication and expertise.
Franz Xaver Pichler, born in 1941, and his wife Rudolfine, born in 1951, remain actively involved in the estate and can still often be found working in the vineyards, which they tend with passion and experience. The winery’s philosophy emphasizes the uniqueness and individuality of each wine, with seamless, perfectly balanced wines being the hallmark of the estate. In 2020, the Wachau introduced the DAC system to provide greater transparency, clarity, and a clear commitment to origin. Within this framework, Wachau wines are now classified as regional wines, village wines, and single-vineyard wines.
However, F.X. Pichler decided to leave the Vinea Wachau, a decision made jointly by both generations. The estate’s wines are internationally acclaimed and have been highly praised by renowned critics such as Robert Parker Jr., who described F.X. Pichler as the “Château Latour, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Zind-Humbrecht, Sandrone and Helen Turley of the Wachau.”
